Unit 2 Interconnectedness

Unpacking the Central Idea
Living things are impacted by changes that happen to ecosystems.
With a good understanding of biotic and abiotic components in an ecosystem, it was time for the Remarkable Rhinos to look at how living things interact with each other, and with their non-living environments.
We took time to understand what a habitat is and researched the main biomes found on our planet.
The Grade 4's then split themselves according to the biome they were most interested in and worked in pairs and groups to create a food chain/web that illustrates the flow of energy found in an ecosystem specific to the biome of choice.

In Mathematics we are developing the language of probability.

Thrilling Thursday
The entire school had fun dressing up for Halloween and going around to trick or treat.
Our class looked AMAZING in the outfits they had been discussing for weeks!

Even the Upper Primary teachers were in on the fun, after all... 'we're all mad here'

A special visitor came back from the UP Musical, it seems that he's grown since we last saw him at the show.

During English, the Grade 4s have been exploring different shades of meaning and sharing their understandings by roleplay.

Wishing you all a fantastic weekend!

Unit 2 Changes in an Ecosystem Assembly

Grade 4 Assembly
The Grade 4s hosted the first assembly to teach the school community about their new unit of inquiry.
What better way is there to teach real-life issues, when sharing the planet, other than putting on a performance that entices some inquiries.
They created the stage props, personalized the costumes, recited their lines, and shared some new dance moves.

How's this for collaboration, prekindergarten asked to be part of the mix offering to paint the factories with a brush and a flick.

By the time assembly arrived, they were beaming with excitement as they gave their best when performing - The Lorax by Dr Seuss - and sharing words of encouragement.

Whizz of the Week
Once again, the trophy seems to be making itself at home in our Grade 4 classroom. We are super proud of our new champion this week, WELL DONE!

Exploring
Identifying components of an ecosystem was the assignment at the end of this week. We found ourselves on a mission to explore and identify as many biotic and abiotic components in
the local park. We also found ourselves quickly becoming a food source for the mosquitos.

How many biotic and abiotic components can you spot in their pictures?

Have a wonderful and safe break!

Unit 2 Sharing The Planet

Sharing The Planet
This week we jumped right into our new Unit and zoomed in on defining an ecosystem. The students immediately made their own connection between life cycles and food chains when discussing the types of networks that are present in an ecosystem. They were also very quick to speak about their responsibility to maintain and promote sustainability.

Speaking of...
The G4 Assembly is in less than a week and these Remarkable Rhinos have been busy with practice and creating their props for the show.

Whizz of the Week

The trophy seems to be making itself at home in our Grade 4 classroom. We are super proud of our reigning champion this week, WELL DONE!

Real-life Cartographer
A couple students came rushing into the classroom with great excitement,
"Miss S, there's a real-life CARTOGRAPHER downstairs!"
During IT the Grade 4s had the opportunity to meet and interact with a digital cartographer friend, who shared his knowledge and expertise with them. Taking a stroll around the school they had the opportunity to update a map using an app that has areas typically difficult to reach by van.

Have a wonderful weekend!
